Emergency Communications

The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District shares your concern over possible emergencies that may arise while your child is in our care.

Our school district has a communication and emergency notification system that allows district and school-level staff to reach parents, faculty and other staff members within minutes. Should an emergency arise during the school day or should a school closure be necessary, parents and staff will be notified via telephone, either by text or phone call.

In order to allow parents and guardians to receive school-specific notifications, please sign up for notifications with the secretary at your child's school. If your contact information should change, please update it with your school secretary as soon as possible.

When severe weather occurs or is forecast, the superintendent will consult with school district administrative and support staffs and the St. John the Baptist Parish Emergency Operations Center to decide whether to delay or cancel classes.

In the event of school closures, early dismissals, late starts or for other important communications, the district will also notify the public via this website, the district's Facebook page and Twitter.

Announcements are also made via local media including L'Observateur, The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com and The Advocate newspaper websites, WVUE, WVLA, WGNO, WDSU AND WWL-TV television stations and the Gumbo 94.9 radio station.
