St. John the Baptist Parish School Board is proud to honor Gillian King-Hughes as our Principal of the Year.
Mrs. King-Hughes is a dedicated instructional leader with over 20 years of experience in education, all proudly served within St. John the Baptist Parish. A product of SJBP public schools herself, she embodies a deep commitment to giving back to the very community that helped shape her. She is married and the proud mother of three beautiful daughters.
Throughout her career, Mrs. King-Hughes has gained extensive experience across K–12 education, teaching at both middle and high school levels in regular and special education settings. She returned to her high school alma mater, East St. John High School, where she spent 12 years as a teacher and mentor. Additionally, she served as Master Teacher for Pre-K through 8th grade at Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School.
Her leadership journey continued as Assistant Principal at both GMMS and STEM Magnet schools, followed by two years as Program Administrator for the SJBP STEM Magnet Program. Now, in her second year as Principal at John L. Ory Communications Magnet School, Mrs. King-Hughes leads with passion, purpose, and a steadfast belief that education provides opportunity for all.
She remains deeply dedicated to ensuring that every child in her community receives a high-quality education that empowers them to succeed.
