What will be the school uniform?

Students may wear casual clothing on a daily basis. See the student handbook for specific information. Some days will be determined to be “Dress for Success” days. On these days, students should wear a white button-down or white polo shirt with the program logo and khaki bottoms.

What should students read for their Summer Reading?

Summer Reading is not required but highly recommended.
1.  Diary of Anne Frank (Preferred) or The War that Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley (Preferred)
2.  See the district summer reading lists (not required).

What school supplies will students need?

Teachers are being trained in the Pre-Engineering and Digital Design courses during the month of June. Some supplies will be course-specific. Students will receive this list at the August 3rd Student Orientation.  However, the district’s School Supply List is posted on the district website. These are the basic supplies students will need at each grade level.

When is the first day for students?

Students will report August 8th for their first day; however, there will be a Student/Parent Orientation Friday, August 3rd, for students to get class schedules, to find their classrooms and acclimate themselves to the campus, to meet their teachers, etc.

What will be the cost of meals: Breakfast and Lunch?

All students attending the STEM Program will be able to eat both breakfast and lunch FREE OF CHARGE. No completion of paperwork will be necessary as all students are now eligible for this program. We highly recommend that students eat both meals daily as research has shown that students excel when their bodies are nutritionally fed.

Will there be a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization)?

Yes, organization and membership for this organization will be discussed at the Orientation Meeting scheduled for August 3rd. However, parents have offered to help get the campus ready prior to the start of school. Once the major upgrades have been complete, we will reach out to parents who are interested in assisting to do some campus beautification projects.

If my child is an athlete, how can he/she participate in interscholastic sports?

Students may participate with their ‘home’ school. This includes both sports and ancillary squads such as dance teams and cheerleaders.

Will there be clubs/organizations on campus?

Yes, there will obviously be pre-engineering and digital design organizations (I.e., robotics and video clubs), but there will also be academic organizations like Beta Club or National Honor Society and civic organizations like Student Government Association.

If my child has an IEP (Individualized Education Plan), will he/she receive the services written in the plan?

The Special Education Department is reviewing every enrollee’s academic records to determine students’ who already have an IEP to determine students’ services that will be needed. Please contact Dr. Stacey Spies for more information.

If I have additional questions about the program, who should I contact?

Please call the principal, Mr. Terran Perry at GMMS at 985-535-5400 or email [email protected] Once the Leon Godchaux facility’s upgrades are complete, there will be a direct phone number to the program’s administration.
