Russell Jack final remarks to the board good evening evening I don't know where to start at look I first came here I had more hair loss  lose about 30 pounds lighter that was was not on no pressure pills but it's been a good almost 15 years and I thought about writing something down but I decided I just wanted to come up here in dress the board is straight from my heart cuz normally I'm better at this first like to see when I took on this this title when I got elected as a board member I didn't nothing about being a board member and I prayed every meeting I would ask the Lord to remove me and ask him to intercede and he did he did just that first of all I like you think the constituents of district one but entrusting me  the B dear leader and spokesman I've learned a whole lot of develop relationships I also want to think of where Saint John's Civics organization which I was a just starting to come and support me with some of these issues that we had on the school would like to thank Administration the past administration some of them on and the existing Administration I like to think that the pair of superintendent Mistico born back to me at Herbert Smith and Batman George working alone with me on one of my fellow board member crack a joke George in trouble now Jack is gone  really work good together last but certainly not least the board some lifelong relationship and Friends board members I think you're four of learned a lot from you dr. Keller just got to know you miss Mitchell Trish it wasn't always easy show work together for a little while but we've been friends a long time and I we didn't had a lot of long nights we we we laugh together we 44 together we cry together keep same thing we had them Kohl's you don't we put a lot into this a lot of time into this golden imagine you know how much time we put into this Russ why I had to tell Russ so many time enough for us Russ also week old many nights days talk Patrick Sanders Leticia a confidence my boy we was called one time somebody call his ride or die you know never forget Jordan Phillip Phillip been The Quiet Storm you know you call him up he's going to tell you I can do it I can do it and hang up anyway this this has truly been a blessing to me and wears makeup of St John Parish from them I want to see thank you that first got on the board I don't know if it was the difference in the politics of anything I would leave every board not just angry but I learn how to twerk with board members in the administration and working together together truly things start to happen scores went up in the school's Athletic program done Greek or West St John high was named nationally more than once but st. John Elementary made some great strides again last year we've had some Greek principles and leaders over there I know I was a thorn in his side a lot and into the when was just a blessing you know I heard Mr Barrel talking about you know we have kids getting killed and overdose but I truly got the chance to deal with parents that had just a great concern for the kids and these administrators put so much in bacon putting our kids and what they are today and I can't be more proud or what what's coming out of West st. John High I mean every year I go to the high school graduation and then I see kids that are finishing College every year like 50 60% of it so that's what I'm I'm encouraging that's what I'm asking you to continue to remember one thing I always did was put the kids first and I'm asking you as board members to continue to do the same I know you're going to do a good job and that tell me about Peach I take you all and I love all you what are we going to go run an orange pepper mister Russell would call me said I need you to vote so you got it I would we voting on so I'm going to miss you Russell you know we had some good times together on the board and off the board and I can know I still say it hurt you one. And all the year for 15 years you been on the board I disappointed you and I need a bad record message Jackie was going to be my new Compadre but he didn't stay around very long but it's a Jack was definitely instrumental in my son getting into West St John and he's doing exceptionally now they are so you're doing a great job in the community I know you're moving on to a new role but don't forget about the kids in the community because it will still need you no matter what Russell Jack was tough but your hair before you got on this mr. jack work for the kids in the kids only know of anything he's done he had ever done or himself and I sat next to him and we did a good job my life is been kids I think his life always been the kid thank you very much what you did I love you jack I'm going to miss you  message Jack I just want to congratulate you on your new position if you're nothing but a friend for me a long time and on the board for three years and been very instrumental to me as well we going to meet I'm going to miss you and I know this whole entire for was going to miss you but it be selfish to say to stay and good luck and thanks once again message a man you sure you want to leave me you leave me with mister mean words can express the you know how I feel about Mister Jagger is always been supportive of what let me take that back right in the beginning he wanted to get me voy I called them after I meet they had some issues I said I said mr. booty man you say only my friends call me alright mr. James but we've come such a long way you know I'm not going to keep talking is appreciate you good luck on your new position and you know you always a phone call away man always you want me going to be bad news and we have already started turn those phone to garavel money roommate adding something we've talked a lot I guess when I first got on the board we were similar circumstances or green against ordering coming and we going up coming in coming in headfirst and trying to change the board when we had 10 people at completely different from and where we wanted it we wanted to change the world you would tell me man stop waking up at 4:05 in the morning send an emails and when I come nobody read them until what would mean you can express your opinion but I guess over that time I think I've matured a little anywhere as I wait till 7 and I was in the appreciate all the guidance that you've given me and everything you've given let me in the right direction thanks Russell Jack Russell I go way back Grambling days we came on the school board together in 2003 but very Bittersweet to see you go but of course we definitely wish you well we've done a lot in the last 14 and a half years we made some good decisions then we've made some not-so-good decision but we learn from and Russell's definitely a soldier for the entire District emphasis on the Westbank I better not see anything about the Westbank are we had some trouble out of Russian Jack so we was the Lone board member of of the West and he going a lot of support So mr. Jack and closing we I definitely wish you well again I don't want to see that showing we don't want to be selfish cuz we going to miss you bro but we do respect your decision to move forward and we would and I wish you well in your future endeavors thank you  Russell love don't often have much to say about anything  but I'm going to Echo what these other folks and said they you matter fact they pretty much said it all you were great colleague you represented your District I got so tired of hearing the Westbank that's the way bud  now we got a problem and the problem is going to fill in your shoes and going to take somebody some hard work  because you you really really didn't excellent job and I'm going to miss you Whirlpool near me  we consider also friends and I'm truly going to miss you sitting here at this boy table at the Diaz here I you've been a true friend we've been through it all personal experiencing death in our families and supporting each other  I've sat here when you first got on the board when the Sanderson and forwarded every meeting I really enjoy that and then from that to see you all become the best of friends through that as well it's wish you the best in your new endeavor  yeah we're we're going to be there for each other truly support you we going to miss you the board's been set high for the Westbank the boys beds at high for District 1 in terms of representing and just listening to the key people and the board itself I don't think anyone has ever worked as hard as you want for your community not just as a board member but as a community play this wish you well good luck to you blue Westbank Oakley willing in lifting your next move and hope everything go well good for you yeah and I only thing is I stayed across on the Westbank so much I thought I was going to be in which no bread so I'm a kind of hole that to you maybe I could be honest banker and that is the best bank isna go to Cottonwood Mall what's up with this how on a present this flag to you coin yours for that jacket too presented to mr. suggestion for 14 years of loyal and dedicated service to send John the Baptist Parish School Board member representing District 1 the years 2003 through the years of 2017 and this year with all the school board members presently and we would like to present this plaque is token of our appreciation to you  Stacy capital business day so you want to say something but I you got to hear a call from an earthquake monitor I just want to see thank you Stacy Stacy was not just the secretary she was my personal secretary and my personal NFL got technology chips who remove alarm to 7 go to declare vacancy or district one board seat at this time taking nominations or vacancy at on District 1 School Board District 1 what's the franchise innominate Charro Holden what you mean by Miss Chaz Michelle Holden II by mr. Keller was the 17 years and Patrick never moved up so we started changing and rotating but now we back and I think with this is going to be a great move these two seasoned veterans and I bring wisdom and it will continue to move this District forward so I think we have a very Dynamic team at this point number 3 approve of the meeting from the minutes of summer by mr. sander I mean by mr. second second by Mitch Mitchell any objections so I moved Adam number for superintendent report thank you president Barrel ladies Gentlemen of the board audience we do have a lengthy agenda night so I'll be brief first of all let me just state that on March 15th we have a legislative breakfast with local delegation aware hosted in conjunction with st. Charles Parish and st.james Parish we really trying to build a coalition to go into the the special session I'm sorry that the regular session so that we're able to fight and Lobby for you no funding for K-12 schools you want to protect our funding every want to see what other funding that weekend or receive so I'm officially announcing to the entire board that every board member is invited but will be on March 15th beginning at 8:30 in the morning in st-charles Parish now followed it up with with an email to you gentlemen and ladies I can see Lee he's now instead of just lady in the microphone you can read it it's kind of loud alright great also I like to announce that you know we've done a lot of work in the past few years regarding implementing music into our schools and we've had a great partner with VH1 so we really appreciate everything that they have done to help us to put music into all of our schools and by the start of next year all of our schools every child in in St John the Baptist Parish will have access to music education in in the schools VH1 is recognized with this board has done in the parish and I'm pleased to announce that on March 4th VH1 is presenting this District within the ward is called the VH1 Save the Music Foundation Award for distinguished support of music is in conjunction with the American Association for superintendents with that conference that's going to be held in New Orleans but they're presenting is district with a more words for your support of music education and it's cool so we very proud of that we proud to be receiving this recognition of course VH1 is a worldwide ization that is focused on presenting St John with this award so I really think into appreciate the board supporting this initiative we really appreciate the the the schools and the teachers and everyone involved with getting music to all of our school so appreciate that and last but not least before move on with the rest of the agenda I'd like to present the the past gavel to our former president and we we have it everything grade that has Keith A Jones St John's School Board president 2014 - 2016 Mrs Jones you did a great job running running this organization for the past two years and want to give this to you as a Keepsake to mr. Jones can use at tonight who like to move up item number 9 G of mr. Lewis Clark served St John the Baptist Parish Community for 34 years is a teacher and where is mrs. Clark served the state of Louisiana and the Parish of St John the Baptist and the worthiness of our service will always be remembered and where is the same Baptist pool board recognizes her dedication and commitment and this resolution of sympathy shall be forwarded to the family and member to forward it to the members of her family therefore be it resolved St John the Baptist Parish School Board along with the superintendent of schools desire to present this resolution to her family and recognition of the value and the love the system has for her furthermore the st. John the Baptist Parish School System wishes her family well in the bereavement and also and also that this resolution will be red and in Open Session and made a part of our official minutes on this day February 15th 2017 thank you we're going to have to members of her family to come forward to receive this resolution please I'm number five educational presentation recognition or conditions by the board or staff having his money Denver recognition of Louisiana Association of computer using educators thank you sue contending board members the Louie an association of computer using Educators is an organization dedicated to the advancement of digital teaching and learning each year the association brings together teachers and Raiders from across the state to collaborate and Share technology integration best practices  as the Region 3 area director representing a assumption lafouche St James St John and Terrebonne and lock you board member I am proud to say that at this year's State Conference teachers shine bright  I would first like to recognize Region 3 educators of the Year these teachers were nominated by the chosen by Ella Q committee for their commitment to building 21st century classrooms are first educated the year Elementary it's early childhood educator of the years Miss Melissa Watson Region 3 second second educator of the Year Region 3 Middle School teacher of the year I don't know if she's here or not she's not Michelle Seymour are secondary Region 3 High School teacher of the year KD of the Year Billy Duncan beer also like to recognize our lucu presenters put showcase St John at the stake conference and shared all their digital resources Milan Taylor Vestige on high Deanna Laramie Raquel piggy Fifth Ward Elementary tashika hainsley West st. John Elementary 18 Stewart John L ory Bob and I would also like to acknowledge all of our technology teacher leaders at each of our school sites they act directly as a liaison between the school district and the and so we take this opportunity to recognize them also tonight  shallow Alexander Cherry Sosa Maria Delle Donne book order Watson Shelley Duncan Charles Watkins Kelly Perrette Michael Anderson Salon Taylor and Shelly Chauvin last but not least I want to take this opportunity to recognize our district technology facilitator Tanya Foshay who works directly with teachers and administrators on a daily basis to promote in-home educational Valley forward in St John the Baptist Parish Schools we couldn't do this without her she is so dedicated to our teachers and our students thank you so first off yeah Miss Miss Denver please stay right there first of all we thank all of our wonderful Educators who do such a marvelous great job of incorporate SEC Knology in into the classroom to help by students but you know one thing I do want to say I do want to you know a thing you know Bob who's Yahoo does excellent job of making sure that the things are in place so that teachers can use the technology that we do have and I also want to thank you know Bonnie for doing such a great job in her role you know she sat there and she handed out all these different awards for for the folks who receive recognition and rightfully so congratulations but you know every you know respiration starts somewhere and I do believe that starts with Bonnie and how she handles that department in and puts poor someone's passion into that so let me just say this Miss Bonnie Denville was appointed to the board of directors of lock you back in December of 2015 and is the current area Mary director representing St John the Baptist Parish Ascension St James assumption St Mary Lafourche and Terrebonne the use of computers in changing with the goal of using the power of technology to assist in the Fulfillment of the goals of education so while she was handing out of War she didn't realize that we that we had a little something for her Play I'm So Much by Denver recognition of your representation of St John the Baptist parish as the area 3 director on the Louisiana Association of computer using Educators board of directors to be inspired is great to inspire is incredible you are an inspiration thank you so much Bonnie give me the this is it that's a long will it give them a second and good but I guess that's why we can't break no laws with all those dimples in the house tonight Adam number 5 beats the bars Simon past Stewart recognition  and Miss assignment did call me Mr Elijah Tomlin who was the student who was receiving the Posse award they'd actually had a posse meeting tonight so we're going to recognize him at the next board meeting so we can move on to the next item mr. birth what's this song good evening verse you know not coming up to sing his Praises a million times over he's an exceptional student on exceptional individual when told about being recognized the board his first words to me were I do you want me to see if I make it it took to both places at the same time somehow so he was going to go to his meeting and try to leave early and make it back here but I told him it was his first meeting Posse foundation and what she needed to set as that bar that they see with him is what needed to be maintained right now so he is still at that meeting on Poydras Street in New Orleans but he thanks I am we will try to get him here next month okay we will put them on the agenda for the next meeting didn't leave East st. John High School West st. John High School sacs accreditation yes sir this is just a reporter to let the board know that East st. John high school has officially received their report from sacs accreditation we have been approved by the board Saks credit Asian they came into our school on last month safe for about 3 days during that time. I not only did they have a presentation from myself in the staff they also spoke with stakeholders on the community school board I'm sorry parents stakeholders and people from the community and every walk of the school are they checked every single aspect of our school from the eye technology web pages to the netclassroom they did approximately 50 observations in a one day. I am came out with finger credited without any provocation good evening board members superintendent just like East Saint John reportee West St John went through sex accreditation in February of this year and we also went through the same intern an external review by the committee and we're happy to say that we are also approved for for size accreditation I would like to acknowledge my still as one of our lead teachers and my assistant principal Miss Spears I don't think I'm missing anybody else we all came together as a team which I'm sure you seen John did as well it takes the team good to get that sex accreditation because the administration and leadership team produced it internal review first but then those teachers are Wednesday's being observed by those external reviews and they're actually performing and that's what the external review team comes in to see what the teachers are doing how they Implement Tech pause you two strategies that using into just verify that we're doing what nationally is supposed to be done in high schools Across America so I'm having to say that East st. John in change on both sexes accredited principles why didn't do his overtime work for something so somebody going to get this information  I was going to read it for the Posse but I think we just sex accreditation it also needs to be her to y'all I want to congratulate both of y'all on making sure that we did receive sex accreditation but I want to give you all one more challenge in Reading education and it was a short ass see them by the purpose of Education a Doctor Martin Luther King which I read couple weeks ago maybe last week to a preacher's brunch any wrote the importance of Education in our communities is not goal of intelligence then for the goal of social living the function of education is to teach want to think intensively and to think critically you wrote intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education the complete education gives the one not only the power of concentration or worthy object upon which to concentrate the broad education with therefore transmitted to one not only the acclimated knowledge of the race but also to accumulate knowledge of the race but also the accumulated experience of social living so what I want to challenge you to do with your kids is not on it educate them but create a better character for those individuals  sound is that okay thanks Adam number 5D Miss Erika Mary national school counselors I Ever Could you wait of course this is National School counseling week and I would like to read a proclamation to you in reference to school counselors whereas  first of all profited Proclamation National School counseling week whereas School counselors are employed in public and private schools to help students reach their full potential and whereas school counselors are actively committed to help should explore their abilities strings interest and talents as these traits relate to the career Waylon awareness and development and where at school counselors help focus on ways to further the educational personal and social growth of children and whereas School Cal just work with teachers and other Educators to help students explore their potential and set realistic goals for themselves and where school counselor seek to identify and utilize criminate Community Resources that can Embrace and complement comprehensive School counseling programs and help students become productive members of society and whereas comprehensive developmental School counseling are considered an integral part of the educational process that enables all students to achieve success in school we really turn on our school counselors at each one of our schools and again this is National School counseling week I would like to recognize the counselors that are here with ask tonight  I think we have to for sure Miss Carolyn Mills Miss Mills is a counselor at St John hi Miss Mills would you like to come up here like to say something good evening the evening thank you for the recognition in behalf of the Saint John the Baptist professional counselors of we are dedicated to serve and we take this is recognition with pride and a sense of humor thank you thank you  I miss Mills how many years have you been with St John the Baptist Parish School System we appreciate every one of those years and we also have Miss Damika Jones from East st. John High Jones thank you for the recognition let me just say this first off you know after a long day of dealing with 14 to 17 18 year old kids I know it it's a lot for you guys to come here before I appreciate you taking time out of your lives to come here tonight to receive this recognition but I just want to say thank you for the job that you do with did the council's with 1400 kids keeping everything in order I don't know how y'all do it but I'm glad that you do so we appreciate you and thank you for being a danite Missy Miss music counseling deal work on me  Adam number 5 Mission you should Trish ERS a presentation repeat what I tell you about across the road but all them letters last time motion made by mr. different things but we feel like there's more needed as we were brainstorming on ideas to make this work and make it work better for children we said okay why why don't we narrow the focus of four the administrators of the Master Teachers the teachers all of the Personnel on each site so what we wanted to do is say okay at Fifth Ward have a free only pre-k through fourth grade students there where the focus would be on early literacy early numeracy and making sure they kids what time they leave the third grade they're able to read they have those those numeracy skills in order for them to be successful the rest of the way in the 5th through the 8th grade we can now begin to focus more on for pulling down more carnigan units high school credits to the middle school so and they can have a lot more ability when they only have 58 graders on their campus of course you talk about social things as as having kids that are all like grades and having them on cam this with a short of age group that that always helps but we wanted to do something different want to do something that was based on research is for as having a teacher's did have the ability to work with for 5 additional teachers on the same send a teaching the same subject one of the cries that we have I know you asked me to be briefed mr. far as what I'm sorry it's hard to be brief with something so large with the one of the cries that I teachers have is that some in some instances there may be only one other teacher teaching Nick that same subject so if you're in the second year as second grade teacher you may only have one other teacher so when you talking about teaming and working together which we are big proponent of here in this District when you only have one other person's want to really team with one other person now instead of having to people you going to have four or five teachers teaching the same subjects so when we do have those planning planning time meetings with a teacher's now they're able to have more ideas coming to the picture they have more teamwork they can work together they can be and those principles at those two sides will be able to be a lot more flexible with their scheduling thus enhancing the kitchen of the Chow so that's that's what I have involved but down to the the basics of the whole idea is to improve the education especially of those longest kids concentrate upon getting their reading and math skills up like we've never been able to do before yes sir thank you Stones thank you mr. chairman superintended George I like you to explain to the these are phenomenal successes I'm sure you guys would want to look at some other things but if you asked me that question day I'm not even considering any other schools in in this we're focused on East st. John Elementary 5th Ward education for elementary lights and what does bored or what does it ministration have to get the justice department of proof for these changes as relations District 2 schools going to do yes sir we have spoken already with Kevin climate who handles on desegregation order he has been in contact with the doj already they also I think I'm not sure of all the time to deal with
